ABOUT ME

My name is Tiernan Dowd; I am a young product designer form from the green fields of Ireland. I am curious and like to explore my surroundings to make sense of it all. This inquisitive nature has driven me to explore. I traveled all over the world, from Shanghai to New York. Through my travels and experiences, I have learned to be a patient, and empathic, and better understanding of different cultures. Design is about communicating your solutions, so understanding and listening to others is a great way to better solve the problem
My interest in design stems back to my first Lego set. I was intrigued by how simple pieces of plastic could give rise to an endless number of adventures. As I grew older, my desire to understand the inner workings of my surroundings only deepened. None were safe from being disassembled and reassembled, whether a toy, a computer mouse, or my dad’s toolkit. I continue to challenge myself in new activities and learn from them.
Where I'm From

I Come from the small seaside parish of Maree/ Oranmore in County Galway. I live in Maree, a rural community that is 15min drive from Oranmore. Oranmore in Irish is Uran Mor which means big well. Growing up, I didn't need to travel far for anything; the parish had everything. I went to primary in Maree, N.S., and secondary school in Calasantus College. I later went to Yeats college in Galway city to complete my leaving cert, where I got 521 points. The town has grown immensely in the last decade and becoming known for its beautiful countryside, talented sports teams and ambitious students.

My College
I went to the University of Limerick to pursue my undergraduate of product design and Technology. It was established in 1972 and went on to hold over 17,500 students. UL has gotten a reputation as a young, energetic, and enterprising university with a proud record of innovation in education and excellence in research and scholarship.

My Course

I studied for a Bachelor of Science in Product Design and Technology. I graduate in August of 2022 with First Class honors. The course is a 4-year undergraduate that teaches us vast design skills, from manufacturing and sustainability to Psychology. I loved my time there; I built strong connections with the staff and students, which will last a lifetime.
Since then, I have been searching for a new chapter in my experience and look forward to seeing where I end up.
